Health doesn’t shout, it whispers. Underneath this whisper, we are witnessing the transformation of health happening in real time. Healthcare used to be something you visited, then it was on you, soon it will be in you, and eventually everywhere, all at once.
Your mirror will scan your vitals after your smart bed has measured your sleep. Your toilet will be a biomarker lab. You’ll visit diagnostic facilities for a 10-minute check-up like a morning coffee run, and results will be delivered with AI-supported recommendations supervised by a doctor trained in behavioural science.
I can see some of you rolling your eyes. Healthcare is an industry that uses the fax — a 1962 invention — as a core tenet of data exchange, along with paper forms and siloed records.
At the same time, all of the technologies I described are already here. They’re just very unevenly distributed.
I have written previously how healthcare is evolving into a consumer product and will require an upgraded user experience, starting with organising and interpreting data in real time.
The best part? Technology will drive the cost of healthcare lower, just like it has with every other industry. This means faster, more equitable and efficient healthcare. This is our mission at Kalibra.
